A necklace made from torch-work Glass and Tuff (White Lava). The necklace is 22 inches long, hand-knotted, with a lobster-claw clasp.. The torch-work beads are from my local bead store, Bead Inspirations (www.beadinspirations,com), as are the tuff beads.
When a volcano ejects lava through an explosion, the lava cools rapidly when it comes in contact with air. The result is volcanic ash. When volcanic ash is compacted (lithified) , it becomes Tuff. Tuff is fairly easy to work, so it was used by the Roman as a building material, and by the inhabitants of Easter Island to build the moai statues.
